That nasty little voice that tells you that you can’t. That doubts and criticises you. That nags you and puts you down. That tells you you’re not good enough. And how dare you believe in yourself.
That voice is not you. Do not buy into it.
The inner critic presents itself as wise. It’s not. It’s the voice of fear and despair.
It presents itself as superior. It is not. It’s the sum of the garbage we’ve heard as children, usually from people not fit to dispense opinions. That garbage may range from unpleasant to downright abusive. In either case, it is litter.
The inner critic presents itself as protective. It is not. It’s destructive. It comes from contempt, corruption and coercion. It’s the villain, not the hero.
Whenever you hear it, know with all confidence that it’s not you. Know it for what it is: a collection of unwise, inadequate, abusive opinions you’ve heard as a child. Let it narrate its endless narratives. Thank it for its scolding, warnings, instructions. And do not buy into them.
