We all have excuses. The train was late. The weather changed. Our partner miscalculated. We were tired, scared, confused. If we want to find excuses for why we’re not achieving the things we’re committed to achieving and blame things on circumstances and other people, there are countless of opportunities. But when we do, we become victims.
Victimhood is easy and comfortable. That’s why a lot of people choose it. We are scared to own the consequences of our actions. We are afraid to admit that we are fully responsible for our lives because when we do we have to deal with the anxiety and self-judgement that arise when we make mistakes and fail. We have to deal with the weight of the consequences of our actions and decisions, and mainly we have to deal with the fear that we are not good enough, not lovable, not powerful.
But if we don’t assume full responsibility for ourselves and our actions, we rob ourselves of our power and agency.
