You zag when others zig

You’re not just one thing. Not only a professional, or only a partner, or only a parent.  Not only someone who works, or someone who runs, or someone who paints in their free time.

Don’t box yourself into a box, and don’t box yourself into a box that’s not yours.

We’re told to niche down. To be specific. To narrowly define ourselves. But often when we do, we end up neglecting or even disowning the very aspects of ourselves that hold our biggest potential and strengths.

And anyways, being all of yourself is niching down.

Own your complexity, your quirks, and controversies.

You’re who you are. Some people will get it. Others won’t. If you’re the fast and agile type, you’ll be too fast and agile for some. If you’re deep, focused, and slow, you’ll be too deep, focused and slow for some.

Your challenges are not the result of who you are, how you think, or how you do things. Your challenges are the result of you telling yourself that there’s something wrong with this. They’re the result of you trying to adapt to standards and expectations of people who just don’t get it.

You’re a trailblazer. You are here to create a world that doesn’t yet exist.

And some people just aren’t ready for it.

You see things other people don’t see. You get things they don’t get. You are here to challenge the conventions. To show people that there’s a different way of being and doing. Some might get it after a while, others may not.

Stay true to yourself. Have the courage to be disliked. Have the courage to go against the grain, to push the boundaries, test the waters.

You’re drawn to exploring new lands. Honour the pull. Honour yourself, honour your intrepid, adventurous nature. Stay true to who you are.
